  • Four Previously Un-released Tracks On iTunes

    2011-12-15

Last week we celebrated our 30th anniversary together with Fan Club members from around the world by playing four nights at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco . . . it was quite the bash each and every night! If you were able to join us at any or all of the parties, thanks for coming out to hang with us. And whether or not you were there, you may have heard that we added some unreleased tracks from the Death Magnetic sessions to the set list – one “new” song each night as part of the shenanigans on stage.

This week, we’re releasing those four tracks through iTunes exclusively in North America and on iTunes and additional digital retailers in other parts of the world as the "Beyond Magnetic" EP. All four studio versions of these songs were sent to Met Club members for free immediately following their live debut on stage at the Fillmore and are available now to everyone via the magic of digital downloading. They are the rough mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March of 2008, and those of you with very keen senses of sound might recognize bits and pieces from the ‘Mission Metallica’ videos posted in the summer of 2008.

Thanks again to everyone who visited us in San Francisco. As Lars mentioned at the end of the last show, we’ll be back here in January with an announcement about a special interactive fan event in June of 2012 . . . we may ask you to do a little traveling again!

    BEYOND MAGNETIC TRACKLISTING:

  • 30th Anniversary Concerts with Tickets

    2011-07-29

Metallica turn the ripe age of 30 this year, and the band thinks “it’s cause for a major celebration.”

“Thirty years of Metallica… can you believe it?” the guys state on their official website. So, how is the world’s biggest metal band celebrating their 30th? With a concert, of course. Actually, four of them. The veteran band announced they’ll commemorate their glorious past with four special, fan-only shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco on December 5, 7, 9 and 10.

To sweeten up the celebration, the group is offering ’80s pricing at just $6 per ticket or $19.81 for all four concerts (Get it – 1981?). These tickets are for fan club members only. Additional details will drop on the band’s website, and Metallica are “taking reservations" through August 8.

“These unique shows will include special guests and events, rare songs, varied set lists, odds and ends, and all the nutty stuff you expect from Metallica... fun for the entire family!” the site states.

“Come to the Bay Area and spend the week with us to not only close out 2011 out with a bang, but to celebrate over three decades worth of craziness… Hope to see you for a week of madness in December!”

It's everything the working musician needs to book gigs, contact record labels, find a manager, locate tour services, and more. It's information you can trust from the publishers of Billboard. And, unlike annual directories, the Musician's Guide is updated every six months."

  • METALLICA To Enter Studio In March Or April

    2011-02-01

Danish tabloid newspaper Ekstra Bladet conducted an interview with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich last month at the band's headquarters in San Rafael, California. A few excerpts from the chat follow below. (Note: All original Danish-language quotes were translated into English by BLABBERMOUTH.NET.)

On when the band plans on returning to the studio to begin work on the follow-up to 2008's "Death Magnetic":

"There's a really good vibe in the band at the moment. In the past, we would be fed up with METALLICA whenever we returned home after a gigantic world tour, but this time it's different. Therefore it won't be that long before we start working on a new album. I think that we'll probably already get the creative process going in March or April and go into the studio. We really want to get back to METALLICA quickly because we are enjoying it so much right now."

On how the relationship between the METALLICA bandmembers has changed over the years:

"It helps our relationships that we've all got families and children and they all get along with each other. We really fucking like each other at the moment. There were a few years when things were really bad. We never really got to talk to each other; we would just grab a bottle of vodka and go out looking for girls. That meant that we weren't sharing our feelings with each other. Today we talk a lot about our children and our families. And the fact that we have something to talk about other than tonight's setlist is or if someone made a mistake during yesterday's show makes a big difference. In the last five or six years, we've found out where our limits are and we've made some rules regarding METALLICA. That's been necessary in order to make sure the entire thing doesn't collapse. For instance, we have a rule that we cannot be on the road for more than two weeks at a time during the school year and we make sure that we spend two weeks at home before going back on tour. That prevents us from burning out and falling into the trap that you can sometimes fall into when you are tired and worn out."
